History of the Universal Measurement System

1978
The Universal Measurement System is created by Jeff Rand with some assistance from Doug Wilson.

December 1978
The first UMS compliant event is held as Winter Camp adopts the system for its second outing. The system at Winter Camp II included units for distance, mass, time, and temperature

1994
Further work is undertaken by Mark Bollman--> under the auspices of the newly organized Winter Camp Bureau of Standards with the intent of defining absolute standards and base units for three additional quantities, thus developing a complete measurement system. While the system has not been in the forefront of Winter Camp measurement since then, it remains an important part of Winter Camp lore.
